In March '24 a wonderful lady called Kate is taking on a serious adventure to fundraise for us. Read about Kate's journey:
What I’m doing:
I am travelling to Patagonia to embark on various multi-day treks, which includes the iconic ‘W Trek’ in support of Your Voice Cornwall. In total I’ll be walking approx 106km (or 66 miles) over a few days. I’ll also have a day canoeing, and get the chance to visit the Unesco world heritage site 'Perito Moreno Glacier’.
Why I'm doing it?:
I wanted to experience something new, as well as different, and I wanted it to be a physical and mental challenge in the process. Exercise and getting outside is so key to positive mental health and I know that I can experience moments of self-doubt, negativity and a general sense of sadness if I don’t engage in these activities on a regular basis. That said, it isn’t always easy and 'life' happens. Work is busy, home-life is busy, and so I got to a point a year ago that I recognised that I needed to make a change as I had let everything slip a little and had very little time left in the day. Embarking on this once in a lifetime trip has given me a sense of personal purpose (beyond being a parent) and has awakened a new found love for walking the coastline! Prioritising time for myself, and walking with friends or alone has been great fun. It is having a positive effect on all aspects of my life, and that can only be a good thing. It sounds like common sense of course (and we've heard it all before!), but prioritising taking a moment for yourself and getting outside, or doing any exercise will make you feel better - we all know this - but it's something we can all easily let slide!
I recognise the importance of having a ‘better’ mental health and mindset, and that's why I think it is crucial for an organisation like ‘Your Voice Cornwall’ who align with these same principles to be supported themselves, and allowing them to continue with their fantastic mission.
Our Hangloose Heroes
Our wonderful Andi, swapping her wheelchair for some 'Hangloose' time. 🤩
On a biblically rainy day in July, these absolute legends took on the Uk's LONGEST zipwire, soaring 660 metres high (gulp) at 60mph above Cornwall's Eden Project, all to raise money for us.
Emma, Andi, Jenny, Issy and Ellie dug deep into their 'big ball' reserves and totally smashed this amazing challenge - raising over £1k between them. How incredible!
If you'd like to jump out of your comfort zone and take on an awe inspiring challenge to raise money for us and the women of Cornwall, please give us a shout.
